Dear Friends,
Mother’s Day 2010 comes at a moment of unprecedented opportunity to build a safe, secure, nuclear weapon-free world. That’s why, earlier this year, I helped make a new film, Countdown to Zero, about the need to reduce the nuclear threat and build a better future for our children and future generations.
This year, sons and daughters everywhere can honor their mothers, or anyone who inspires them, by reclaiming Mother’s Day’s original meaning. Did you know that Mother’s Day in America was first proposed in 1870 as a day to work for peace?
- Start by sharing the Countdown to Zero video trailer with everyone you know, and urge them make a pledge to see the film when it comes to town.
- Give the gift of peace by making a donation in your mother’s name to the Ploughshares Fund. Your gift will support the best, most effective efforts in the world to reduce and ultimately eliminate nuclear weapons. We will send a card to your mom informing her of your generosity and wishing her a happy Mother’s Day for Peace.
- Send your mom a dozen roses from Organic Bouquet, or a custom designed 14k gold fill necklace. The proceeds will support Ploughshares Fund’s work to build a nuclear weapon-free future.
In the true spirit of Mother’s Day, several extraordinary women, all mothers themselves, have agreed to match your gift, dollar-for-dollar, thereby doubling its impact.
On behalf of my mother and my children, and in celebration of mothers everywhere, Happy Mother’s Day for Peace
Sincerely,
Valerie Plame Wilson
