3 Reasons

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

As Gabby, Willa and Josette’s mother, I don’t have to look far to find reasons for wanting to make the world safe, peaceful and free from the threat of nuclear weapons.

I borrowed Gabby’s Flip camera (thanks for showing me how to use it, Gabby!) so we could send you this short video message.

Mother’s Day in America originated as a day to celebrate peace, and we want to tell you why now – this year – marks a new era to achieve our goal of a peaceful future with zero nuclear weapons.

With your gift to Mother’s Day for Peace, together we will build the political will and public involvement to eliminate all nuclear weapons.

Happy Mother’s Day for Peace!
Naila Bolus
Executive Director, Ploughshares Fund

P.S. Don’t forget, there’s still time to get a meaningful gift this Mother’s Day for your mother (or any special person) that will benefit the important work of Ploughshares Fund.

When I teamed up with Ploughshares Fund’s Mother’s Day for Peace campaign last year, I learned that the holiday traces its roots to a mother’s plea for peace in the wake of the American Civil War. This meaning couldn’t be more important to bring back today, at this moment.

We have an historic opportunity to help solve one of the most urgent global issues — reducing the nuclear threat and eliminating nuclear weapons down to zero.

It’s time to take a stand and spread the word…and it can be fun, too!

Join me in pledging to see the film Countdown to Zero, a compelling new documentary about the need to reduce the nuclear threat. It premiered at Sundance to great acclaim, so I can’t wait to see it when it opens this summer.

You can watch a trailer of Countdown to Zero on this website.

Thank you for joining me in reclaiming Mother’s Day for peace, pledging to see Countdown to Zero, and taking part in this powerful, revived effort to rid the world of nuclear weapons.

Happy Mother’s Day for Peace!

Countdown to Mother’s Day

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Mother’s Day this year, May 9, 2010 comes at a moment of unprecedented opportunity to build a safe, secure, nuclear weapon-free world. Did you know that Mother’s Day in America originated as a day to celebrate peace? In fact, it was once known as Mother’s Day for Peace, tracing its roots to a mother’s plea for peace after the Civil War.

I’m proud to join Ploughshares Fund’s Mothers Day for Peace campaign, and hope you will support us here at www.mothersdaypeace.org where you can donate to Ploughshares Fund and watch the trailer of an extraordinary new film, Countdown to Zero, about the need to reduce the nuclear threat and build a better future for our children and future generations.

What better way to honor your mother than by helping to bring about a peaceful, nuclear weapon-free world with a gift to Ploughshares Fund?

When you make a gift on this website, your mother or honoree will receive a handwritten card with your message for peace and a happy mother’s day, or a custom made necklace symbolizing ‘zero’ nuclear weapons, or a dozen roses, courtesy of Organic Bouquet, or you can send all three.

Join me, in reclaiming Mother’s Day for Peace, with a gift to ensure a brighter more peaceful future for our children and families everywhere.

Happy Mother’s Day for Peace!
